Hurricane Gloria
September 1985

While the damage from Hurricane Gloria was reported to be relatively minor - compared to a major hurricane like Andrew or Hugo - the damage in Ocean City was still significant. The storm surge poured 2-3 feet of water into the streets, and swept away part of the boardwalk. There was sand covering everything and much of the Boardwalk was damaged. More than 200,000 persons evacuated the low lying areas on Long Island, and in New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts.
